desire to increase and maximise their use of resources. The maximisation of resources will ultimately have the impact of increasing the bottom line. There are few managers who would not
agree that to gain more from the resources they already have, even with some investment, would be beneficial, as long as the cost benefit analysis is favourable. The organisation has
many resources, but one which is very flexible and also one that is overlooked is that of the employees. Employees are essential to any business, they may be the
key to developing a competitive advantage or a route by which to improve performance. There is a plethora of evidence that indicates where employees are not motivated the results will
manifest though poor productivity, high absenteeism and staff turnover, and poor employee employer relationships. Individually each of these manifestations of a de-motivated staff may be costly, from the need to
recruit and train to the way in which poor productivity may require higher levels of supervision as well as the lost production. In considering if it is worth implementing
money into motivation there needs to be the consideration of what it is that will motivate the staff and what impact motivation will really have on the staff.
