the world. Established by Mao Tse-Tung as a reaction against the perceived re-establishment of capitalist favor in the political structure of the country in response to internal and external pressures
for China to fully institute modernized industrial practices. Ostensibly a policy intended to expand industrial practices into rural areas for the purpose of achieving a more functional, competitive, and industrialized
socialist framework to repel capitalist influence, the movement has instead largely been characterized in a manner that emphasizes the institutional violence committed by the Mao regime and associated militant forces
during the period of the Cultural Revolution. Indeed, there was a great deal of violence during this time, especially the widely-documented destruction of cultural artifacts by the youth-driven Red Guard
and the violent suppression of student uprisings at Tiananmen Square. However, with a realistic appraisal, the legacy of the Cultural Revolution hasnt been entirely negative. Especially in regards to education
