tools it must be seen as a subject to the way in which it is used and may not be suited to all environments. In order to assess to assess
the tool it is necessary to first look at concept of the paradigm and then at the way it can benefit organizations, it is also necessary to look at some
of the limitation and the environments to which it is not suited. The beginnings of this type of management are often associated
with the Japanese, who have demonstrated the use this type of management system with great success. Companies such as Nissan and Toyota have used this style of management to great
effect. However, it is now generally accepted its origins lay with W. Edward Deming and Joseph Juran s quality control principles in the United States of America in the 1950s.
Total quality management was then subsequent taken up by the Japanese firms, many of whom benefited from learning American manufacturing principles after
the Second World War when as part of the restructuring of Japan many Japanese executives toured industry in the United States (Mintzberg et al, 2008). This was seen in companies
such as Honda. There are many perceptions regarding TQM; what it is, what it means and what results may be realized from
