to different logistical problem, such as changing to a just in time inventory management system. To examine this the first stage is to define what it meant by a hard
system. There are several models of change that can be used, hard systems deal with factual logical changes with predetermined steps, whereas soft system tend to deal with less tangible
or measurable change where there are many immeasurable factors, such as human emotions. Soft systems are best where there is the need for extensive consultation, whereas hard models are more
suited to scenarios where less consultation is required and faster changes can be implemented (Checkland, 2000). Hard systems thinking is a model that is used to solve problems in
a logical manner using factual data to meet a set goal or objective (Checkland, 1990). The use of measurable and logical data is utilised in the decision making process and
the subsequent implementation, for example, in this case it may have been forecast with financial models that there will be a decrease in the level of working capital so that
cash can be used elsewhere, as well as facilitate better use of resources and decrease damage occurring to goods whilst held in stock. The change will begin with some
assumptions, there will be a unitarist perspective on the change, this is one where the change will go ahead, the change is planed in a mechanical manner, with incremental steps.
The first step will be to define the problem, to consider the alternatives, to evaluate the best course of action and to make the decision. With the decision to implement
JIT stock management the first stage will be to define what JIT is, and who it can be used for the company and then the alterative ways it can be
