technological industries this need for quality can be seen as even more important. In this case we will look at a fictitious company by the name of 302 Technologies which
is a service provider for network administration. Here it is the quality of the service and final goods that can be seen
as determining not only the success of the company, but also its client, and therefore quality has to be one of the key characteristics of the business. The practice
of benchmarking has been used by many companies in order to improve their own performance. Measuring themselves against the performance of their competitors or others in a similar industries the
use of existing knowledge may be maximised and applied across the company or industries boundaries. Other motivation factors also exist. For example the
use of business awards for quality exist, such as the National Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award. This is an annual Award given out to an American company for recognition of excellence.
Companies that receive the award have been Motorola in 1988, Milliken & Company in 1989, Cadillac Motor Car Division in 1990, Marlow
Industries in 1992, AT&T in 1992, Ames Rubber Corporation in 1993, AT&T Consumer Communications in 1994 and Armstrong World Industries in 1995 (Anonymous, 2001).
