team member ship may change over the development lifecycle with new members brought in or leaving the team as needed, however, the team may also remain the same. If this
is for a single product, such as a hairdryer then, with a short product development cycle there is less likely to be the need to change the team. If
we are developing a new product and considering the needed attributes of the team we can look at how and why teams are seen as able to help innovate and
increase the development process. There are many theories that abound regarding the way the innovation many be best achieved. Some argue that teamwork is the key, with a good integration
and cross department team being present (Flemming and Koppleman, 1996, Handy, 1997). However, others argue that there is a need for a lone developer, or for a champion or leader
in a team that has the inspirations and ideas. Other elements may include their access to resources, the team dynamics, the way in which the team or individual are perceived
by the company as well as peers, and even their past results. There is much empirical evidence that cross functional teams will
increase the speed of development and increase the success rate, however, they are also harder to implement than is traditionally thought to be the case, and success is not an
