businesses often leave decision-making to chance. Of course, the executives will hire the best people possible, but by and large, the administration will just hope that things go well. A
lack of attention to the decision-making process can wreak havoc on a company. According to Kepner-Tregoe, the real problem is that employees lack critical thinking skills
and the ramifications of a lack of such skills lead to serious problems (Braun, 2004). The Enron debacle is one example (2004). While not all companies will collapse, a lack
of good decisions will render a company not a productive as it might be. Critical thinking skills can help employees to make better decisions on the job and a
working decision making model can help. One decision making model has been created by Dr. Robert Carkhuff and may be used in a variety of circumstances ("Decision-making," 2004). Steps provided
in the following example are aligned with career decision making but of course, the model may be applied to any type of decision. Step one given in the example is
to list career alternatives (2004). This comes down to brainstorming or listing a lot of options that have been considered as well as new options that are perhaps recommended
by a counselor. For other applications, one might make a list of all alternatives to a problem. Perhaps one is deciding in a work situation, who to promote to the
next level. They might write down all the candidates: John, Mary, Cassandra and Leah. Step 2 of the model goes to Career Selection Criteria where ones career is revealed
