example, facial recognition technologies are very important. They help in the identification process when a fuzzy photograph is the only thing that the police have to go on. Being able
to access fingerprints in seconds is another advantage of todays high technological offerings. Police officers and FBI agents can use databases to eliminate suspects or confirm their suspicions. Other technologies
that help store and transmit data, and foster sound communication, are things that help law enforcement. Two important technologies are mobile data terminals and Live Scan technology.
Mobile Data Terminals Mobile data terminals or MDTs are often found in larger police agencies ("Mobile Data Terminal," 2010). They are aligned with wireless mobile data systems and
provide several benefits for police ("Mobile Data Terminal," 2010). One benefit is that radio transmissions are generally more secure than scanners ("Mobile Data Terminal," 2010). Many people have police scanners
and listen to them for entertainment. Some people on volunteer fire and first aid squads routinely listen to them in order to be forewarned of an emergency call. However, the
police have no privacy when they use scanners. MDTs on the other hand provide the police with a good sense of privacy. Scanners are not able to hear anything on
