is an aspect of astronomy that may be used, and has been, to search for planets outside of the known solar system. It should be explained that the successful experiments
of Karl Jansky in 1931 are thought to be the beginning of radio astronomy ("100 Years," 2002). Indeed, Jansky is the father of radio astronomy and that is where it
all began. While radio astronomy is part of a larger, more intricate model pertinent to the science, radio astronomy is a significant niche. The development of radio astronomy in fact
opened the door to new possibilities and suggested that, if life had been common enough, intelligent life might be as well (Marschall, 1998). It just might be that a big-dish
radio antenna would pick up the staticky equivalent of The Brady Bunch someday or perhaps even broadcast from an alien solar system (1998). Such are the ideas of science fiction.
However, science fiction becomes closer and closer to reality and it just may be that radio waves will be integral in proving the existence of extraterritorial life. An early
attempt to listen in on the galactic networks had been Project Ozma, something that had been organized by astronomer Frank Drake (1998). Drake had codified his chances of success in
1961, something that led to a formulation that had come to be known as the Drake equation (1998). This is an important development in the history of radio astronomy. In
exploring the subject, and defining it precisely, it helps to understand human senses. For example, one can read a page of information on a computer screen because human eyes are
