management and employees. There is a great deal of evidence that shows for a company to be successful the management and employees need to share the same goals and
be working in the same direction. This does not mean the goals have to be exactly the same, but they should at least be compatible (Thompson, 2005). Therefore, the mission
statement can act as a tool and a point of reference. However, not all mission statements are equally effective, so to be a useful tool it needs to be out
together in a way that can be easily understood. Radtke (1998) argues that a mission statement should be a maximum of a paragraph in length, and should be able
to define and explain what it is the company does in a clear and concise manner and should also include what the company plans or the future in very general
terms. Such as to be the best or to be the most reliable, as well as reflecting the values and nature of the work the organisation undertakes, therefore, a statement
simply to be the best is not enough. Radtke (1998) also argues that the mission statement it also needs to be in simple language, avoiding specialist terms or of industry
short hand, otherwise the statement may be understood by those already within the field, but will exclude many others from understanding the mission of the company (Radtke, 1998). Therefore, in
