are the three primary entities that have been created as a result of the UN Charter (Alger, 2006). Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg as it
respects the United Nations system. In evaluating the system that is infinitely more complex, what factors have led up to the rise of such a model? First, it pays to
look at the actual composition of the UN. What are the other organizations that are attached to it? There are related organizations and specialized agencies, each of which had been
created as a result of different treaties (Alger, 2006). One can begin to see that different treaties are responsible for the creation of a more intricate system. Yet, other factors
were responsible for creating an environment where an expansion of the system was required. Before embarking on expansion for the current state of affairs, it pays to look at the
history of the United Nations. The term United Nations, often simply called the UN, was coined by President Franklin D. Roosevelt ("History of the UN," 2008). It was on January
1, 1942, that representatives of 26 nations pledged that they would fight against certain other nations when necessary ("History of the UN," 2008). One may consider this initial promise an
alliance. Of course, this early United Nations would grow. It should also be said that the UN concept is an idea that has its roots in a much earlier time.
Prior to the creation of the United Nations was the League of Nations, something that would come about shortly after World War One ("History of the UN," 2008). There are
