on This Paper, Please For a country of its size, England has suffered a long, bloody history of
civil conflict and strife, stretching from the "War of the Roses," involving battles between the warring houses of Lancaster and York, all the way to the Revolutionary War, a battle
waged between Englands King George and an upstart colony across the ocean. Very few of Englands conflicts, however, have been as convoluted, confusing or messy for historians to figure out
as the English Civil Wars. These wars, fought during the monarchial rule of Charles I and his son, Charles II, spanned the entire decade of the 1640s. Yet historians still
search for the cause of the conflict, and still remain uncertain as to when the conflict actually began. Although dubbed the "English
Civil Wars" by some historians, the conflict of the 1640s actually involved three countries (Ohlmeyer, 1998). The conflict originated in Scotland, ultimately raging through Ireland and England (Ohlmeyer, 1998) until
it ended in 1651 (The History of the English Civil Wars, 2001). The conflict ended with several events: the beheading of Englands
King Charles II, the quashing of remaining rebellions in Ireland and Scotland and the installation of parliamentarian Oliver Cromwell as Lord Protector of the Realm (The History of The English
Civil Wars, 2001; See also, "Oliver Cromwell"). The end of the war also led to an uneasy period in England, which involved strict religious principals. Fanaticism and the eventual emigration
