strained. Environmental changes have in fact altered things for the workers who find themselves members of the strong union whose acronym is the UAW. While improvements and efficiency, along with
changing technology, do have an effect on the workforce and employability, the effects of globalization have been felt as well, particularly among auto workers. Globalization has changed the landscape. Along
with that is the merger and acquisition trend that enveloped the latter part of the twentieth century. Many employees find themselves without jobs and the union can only help them
so much. In order to evaluate the effect that the environment has had on UAW employees, concepts and theories become relevant. As Capelli suggests, employees may have to
merely rethink the way they work (Ferris, Buckley & Fedor, 2001). The world is changing, in part due to globalization and in part due to technological change, but employees who
were "old school" had better get on the new bandwagon. If they do not change along with new management paradigms and new ways of ordering things, they will get left
behind and excessed from the very jobs they desire. Devinatz and Howard look at the future of unions specifically and one may be surprised by their recognition of the changes
