on a smaller scale. In addition, much of the political intrigue goes on just as it would in the Oval Office. This essay examines the offices of both
the Texas governorship and the U.S. Presidency for similarities and contrasts. The Governor of Texas is the chief executive of that state -
much like the President of the United States is the chief executive officer of the nation. Further, American citizens elect both for the term of four years. The
Governor must be at least 30 years old and a resident of Texas for the five years immediately before the election. (However, U.S. Presidency candidates must be at least
35 years of age.) The Governor is responsible for making policy recommendations that lawmakers in both Texas House and Senate chambers may sponsor and introduce as bills, and he
appoints the Secretary of State, as well as members of boards and commissions who oversee the heads of state agencies and departments. However, statewide officials other than the Secretary of
State are elected by the people of Texas (The State of Texas, 2001). This elected officials duties include all the constitutional, statutory
