role as the worlds primary defender against terrorism has been no better accentuated than by the events which have unfolded as a result of the recent terrorist destruction of the
World Trade Center in New York and the simultaneous plane attack on the Pentagon itself. In these instances and the previous 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center by
terrorists entities, the U.S. was directly impacted by terrorism within her own political boundaries. In other instances around the world, however, the impacts of terrorism have affected the U.S.
both directly and indirectly outside of those boundaries. Never-the-less, the U.S. has played and will continue to play one of the most important roles in the abatement of terrorism.
Unfortunately, this role has most often relied almost exclusively on a show of military might and determination. While maintaining our integrity through military means is an obvious part
of protecting us and the world from terrorism, the current state of world affairs also calls for a redress in the manner in which the U.S. conducts its business and
