The Today Show on this date ran several stories, including but not limited to girls who raised money for the cause, the fact that Sandra Bullock donated one million dollars and also, attention is paid to missing children. There is a fear in radio and television media that children will be sold on the black market or enter the sex trade. The part of the world in which the Tsunami hit is known for child abuse. The Today Show also displayed a picture of one missing boy but reported that one man, suspected of being a pedophile, was actually trying to help reunite children with their families. On this date, a newspaper also reported on the Tsunami and the effects on children. After reporting the grim statistics on the lost, the newspaper article reports: "Many others, including children, are missing" (Lokeman, 2005, K622). The article also notes that billboards are found around town with pictures of the missing (2005). The Today Show also demonstrated this occurrence. The newspaper story goes on to say: "There have been amazing stories of survival by people caught unaware. But there have also been horrible stories of people swept up by the waves that rushed the coast" (2005, K6422). The television broadcast was not as general. In fact, the Today Show focused on one missing woman who had planned to meet up with her boyfriend. He was interviewed on the show explaining that when the Tsunami hit, he was on an airplane and was diverted to another island. Now, the mystery of this woman is the focus on the story about the missing, unlike the newspaper story ...
