was suggested that the men were warlike but years later, Tierney would discover that much of Chagnons work had been irresponsible and not only that, fabricated. The charges in respect to the well known anthropologist are startling. Could Chagnon have been so devious and irresponsible as to create a situation he wanted so it would coincide with his theories? A student writing on this subject will want to carefully examine Chagnons work. It should be noted that Chagnon creates a wonderful volume that provides much evidence of the people who live in this isolated region. He tells about how they dress in little more than string, and the events of daily life are carefully relayed. The culture is certainly primitive and the author is direct. Also, photographs provide quite a bit of proof that much of what the author says is factual. For example, on page 6, a picture of a seemingly nude woman doing fieldwork is presented, thus demonstrating the primitive nature of the society and the fact that there is little modernity in their lives. The author matter of factly describes life in this culture, inclusive of relationships between the people. The author talks about kinship relationships and about marriage within the community. He also talks about the weather and nature and how the tribe deals with its surroundings. The author further explains that he spent 60 months (Chagnon, 1996, p.8) living with the people and gathering data, something that anthropologists are expected to do. Of course, in anthropology some objectivity is lost as the scientist will live with his or her subjects. Still, much knowledge is gained through this methodology.
