Because one is delving far back into history, one cannot be certain as to the validity of the details on the life of this English hero. There are many differences of opinion as to whether or not he was good, whether or not he even existed and there is now even debate about his sexuality. Though Robin Hood is a tale oft told to children, some have wondered about his merry men. In any event, there is much speculation on the whole Robin Hood story, but there are some things which are certain. One is that he lived during the 1100s in England and he took money from the rich to give to the poor. Beyond that, many of the facts are arguable. Robin Hood purportedly lived during the twelfth century in England. As legend has it, he robbed from the rich to provide for the indigent. That is the cliche anyway, and in fact today, the concept of doing so is often dubbed a political ideology. It is more akin to socialism or even to American democratic ideology in terms of taxation. Taxing the rich at a higher rate to provide for the unfortunate may be equated with a Robin Hood ideology. In fact, many do refer to people who hold such concepts as being a "Robin Hood." This twelfth century mans name had turned into a concept. While there has been much debate as to the nature of this mans deeds, he has for the most part been portrayed in a good light.
