This has not only limited the demand for trucks to be purchased, but it has also increased the way in which the country borrows trucks from neighboring countries. The industry has been established for some time, trucks have been necessary to the economic growth, successful imports have been taking place for many years (Wall Street Journal, 1982). However, the country has suffered economically, and in order to protect the home market as well as raise funds, this was an are that was seen as suitable to be taxed. The trucks are used for a wide range of purposes, not only to carry goods, but in a country where there are many agricultural workers and the public transport infrastructure is weak, they are also used to carry people (EFE World News Service, 2002). This is due to the way in which the economy is structured as well as the area over which the people need to travel. In terms of Road, there are only 64,000 km, of which only 50,000 km are paved, leaving 14,000 km unpaved (CIA, 2002). There are also many routes where there are tracks that are not even classified as roads. These are the areas where trucks may carry workers to and from different agricultural places of work. The irony is that the trucks are not designed for this type of work, yet they are the only available mode of transport available in many situations, and as such they can also prove fatal in a crash (EFE World News Service, 2002).
