Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 9 page report discusses General Billy Mitchell (1879-1936)
head of aviation in the Army Signal Corps and an aviation hero
during World War I. Mitchell was an outspoken critic of the
United States government for its unwillingness to create a
separate military air force. He was court martialled in 1925
after he issued a statement to the press claiming that “brave
airmen are being sent to their deaths by armchair admirals.” He
also predicted, in 1924, that the U.S. was vulnerable to an air
attack from Japan. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
