Rogers Clark, Samuel Parsons and Richard Butler (2005). The Indians who entered the negotiating process were Red Pole Half King, Crane, White Eyes, Pipe, and Wingman (2005). The treaty had
been signed on January 31, 1786 (2005). Of course, the treaty was one of many that were created between the U.S. and Indians during the period. Also, it was
not a matter of course but truly involved negotiations and perhaps a great deal of persuasion. In general, there has been much attention paid to the fact that the U.S.
government usually fares better than the Indians. A famous example is that the Indians did not get very much for Manhattan Island. In examining the treaty that was singed at
Finney, many questions loom. Were there any misunderstandings between participates in respect to the nature of he negotiations? What role did power play? In 1785, the Confederation Congress did
dispatch some men to negotiate with the Shawnee Indians, but at first, the Shawnees would not accept the terms of another document, the Treaty of Fort McIntosh ("Treaty," 2005).
The American government wanted to avoid a war so that is mostly why they decided to negotiate (2005). The negotiations would take place at the fort (2005). The
Shawnees did not accept the land which was set aside by the Fort McIntosh agreement ("Treaty," 2005). Rather, the Shawnees provided American negotiators "a belt of black wampum" which
is actually a signal for war (2005). The Shawnees, at least at first realized that they were being duped. Parsons and Butler then threatened to attack the Indians if
they would not comply (2005). In the end, there was an agreement called the Treaty of Fort Finney (2005). It was signed because the Shawnee chiefs realized that the Americans
