own minds that they are entitled to things, and this goes beyond entitlement programs and reaches into their daily lives. An example of this sense of entitlement is that some
people rationalize large purchases because they believe they are entitled to these things. They may say to themselves that because they work so hard, they are entitled to buy that
large screen television or fancy sports car. Of course, the truth is that everyone comes into the world the same way, and no one is better than another. Many people
work hard. Yet, some save for a rainy day and are humbled by the experience, while others feel as if the world owes them something. The sense of entitlement can
set up a class divide. Some remember that when Leona Helmsley was arrested for tax evasion, she talked about the "little people" who worked for her. This is an example
of someone who believes that she is better than anyone else. A billionaire, Helmsley made a name for herself by treating workers poorly. Similarly, the anecdote about Marie Antoinette saying
"let them eat cake" in response to the information that the people had no money for bread, signifies the idea that some are entitled to the best of everything, where
others will just have to get by with what they have. Both Maria and Leona saw ordinary people as beneath them. There are traps of entitlement. People will continue to
