respects the nation of Pakistan. However, it should be noted that there had been a significant decline in tourism for Pakistan reported in the mid-1990s (Haque, 1996). According to 1994
statistics, foreign tourism had been increasing, with the exception of the year 1992 (Haque, 1996). Of course, during the early 1990s, there had been a mini-recession which might account
for the lack of interest in travel in general. In terms of the positive growth experienced in Pakistan during the early 1990s, much is attributable to supportive policies proliferated
by the government (Haque, 1996). The lucrative monetary and fiscal incentives had been announced in the National Tourism Policy (Haque, 1996). When the sitting regime decided to embrace tourism
as a legitimate industry, things began to change and tourism would increase (Haque, 1996). The numbers of tourists had increased and foreign tourists from South Asia for example numbered 3311
thousand during 1994 (Haque, 1996). This demonstrates an increase of just 7.2 % (Haque, 1996, p.75) since 1993. Political stability, along with tourist-friendly policies and good implementation of such policies
seem to be the primary reason for tourism in the studied year (Haque, 1996). While tourism did do rather well, during the time, there was a suggestion that to
develop more tourism options, new funds, peace and political stability would be necessary (Haque, 1996). Private sector participation could also open things up (Haque, 1996). While tourism in Pakistan was
mediocre at best--but certainly improving--during the 1990s, September 11, 2001 would change everything. Throughout the world, people were afraid to travel. Pakistans tourism industry was certainly affected by 9/11.
