Niro, the private man. Occasionally, in the strange world known as "Tinseltown," these images sometimes become blurred and fact is nearly impossible to separate from fiction. Not since Marlon
Brando has there been a more enigmatic or reluctant star than Robert De Niro. Also, not since Marlon Brando has there been a more charismatic or commanding screen presence.
Like Brando, De Niros relationship with the press has always been tenuous at best. He uses the media only to promote his acting and producing projects, and reporters
are informed by his numerous public relations people of De Niros ever-expanding list of taboo subjects. According to Esquire journalist Mike Sager, the "dont ask De Niro" checklist includes
wives, girlfriends, children, parents, presidential assassin wanna-be John Hinckley, sports, politics or even fine wines (1997). What little is known about De Niro the man is that he was
born on August 17, 1943 in Greenwich Village to painters Robert De Niro, Sr. and the former Virginia Admiral (Sager, 1997). Young Bobby (as his friends still call him) was
always surrounded by art. His mother sold her first painting to the Museum of Modern Art while still a student and his father was strongly influenced by such Impressionists
