that are equally as intriguing in their own particular way. OBriens work is one that examines characters during the Vietnam War while Ffordes work is a humorous novel concerning the
thievery of literary characters from novels. The following paper discusses the significance of point of view in each novel separately. The Things They Carried OBriens novel is about
the Vietnam War. It is about many different individuals and how they reacted to the war, how they were destroyed, and changed forever, all through the point of view of
the narrator who attempts to give the reader a very unbiased look at the individuals. The title of the book helps illustrate how the narrator does this.
In relationship to the title, it is an incredibly enlightening way to illustrate how they are different and how unique individuals are, further highlighting differences
in what they carried through the war. It is a way of laying foundations of the plot and the characterization, through point of view, of the individuals which works incredibly
well to make the individuals personally attainable and understandable. In this foundation the reader can see, through this point of view, how each man reacts to warfare, how they are
torn apart, and how a part of them is destroyed. As an example, "Cross carried letters from a girl names Martha" (OBrien 1). Other characters carried other things: one
"carried jungle boots-2.1 pounds and Dave Jensen carried three pairs of socks and a can of Dr. Scholls" (OBrien 3). Or there was Henry Dobbins who "carried his girlfriends pantyhose
wrapped around his neck as a comforter" (OBrien 10). In addition, "they all carried ghosts" (OBrien 10). In presenting the story in such a fashion the reader is made to
