Tingen (1999) identify the commonly agreed upon metaparadigms of nursing as consisting of person, environment, nursing, and health. They clarify, however, that this metaparadigm is not exclusive, in fact
that it also: "reflects the shared values and beliefs of the discipline. For example, nurses
subscribe to common values and beliefs including respect for persons, caring, autonomy of persons, health promotion, illness prevention, professional competence, and ethical conduct".
Both Orems personal deficit care theory and Ericksons hypnosis theory can be related to the four metaparadigms of person, health, environment,
