very least, reality is questioned. Of course, the play is by no means a fantasy. Rather, Waiting for Godot is all too real, but it brings up questions about lines
between truth and fiction, the waking and dreaming states and illusion versus reality. Some of the themes lend itself to a questioning of life, but also, there are other reasons
to question whether or not Vladimir is having a dreaming or waking experience. The title of the intriguing play Waiting for Godot is almost a giveaway. The term God does
appear. Would it be too obvious that the men are waiting for God? After all, the premise of the work is about two men waiting for someone named Godot who
they do not know nor do they know anything about him. They do not even know why they are waiting for him. What ensues is discussion intertwined with boredom. There
are several themes in this work and the obvious question to be answered is, who is Godot and why are they waiting? The first question may never be answered. Who
is Godot? Again, one might interpret this to be God. After all, people wait their whole lives to meet God. They prepare by going to church, trying to do the
right things in life and communication with him beforehand. Yet, it will only be after their demise that they will meet the one character who they have wanted to know
all of their lives. The second question is, why do the men wait? They are waiting for someone who might be important, but they are really waiting for some mysterious
being. Why they wait is not necessarily to prove Godots existence or to see Godot. Rather, it seems that they wait because they are, like most people, sheep. They
