A Good Man is Hard to Find is a horrific narrative of delusion, lies and mass murder. It is also anthologized constantly and is one of the most popular stories
ever written. This paper discusses the theme of the story, how OConnor develops it, and how it applies to the world today. Discussion The story is a Gothic tale of
the sort only Southern writers like OConnor and Faulkner can manage. A family of six, including the Grandmother, her son, daughter-in-law and their two children, goes on a road trip
to Florida. On the way, at the old womans insistence, they go down a side road to visit a plantation she remembers from her youth (OConnor). During this trip, they
have an accident, the car rolls over and the mother is injured; three men come along and the Grandmother recognizes the leader as The Misfit, a wanted murderer (OConnor). Once
she blurts out the fact that she knows who he is, the familys fate is sealed: The Misfit shoots the entire family to death and leaves them in the woods
(OConnor). While the story shocks readers and often leaves them angry and upset, critics suggest that there is an underlying meaning that hints at redemption through the gift of Gods
