surprise offensive launched by the North Vietnamese and meant to disarm the South Vietnamese and the Americans. While this offense was not exactly hugely successful from a military standpoint,
it was indeed very successful from the standpoint of politically and psychologically. This offensive did indeed come as a shock,
and in the process of trying to regain control, the Americans and South Vietnamese suffered many casualties, although not as many as the North Vietnamese did. In the end
however, what proved to be the most significant aspect of this offensive was the media campaign and the reaction of the American people.
The images which were produced on the television screens of Americans created a huge reaction and a massive outcry against this war. The people did not support it
and largely there came to be very little support anywhere for this war. The American people had been led to
believe that Vietnam was being fought very successfully and that our troops were winning and were annihilating the North Vietnamese. When the footage of the Tet Offensive was shown
to Americans via the nightly news, they were shocked, outraged and disheartened. They demanded that our troops return home and that an end to this senselessness be put to
a quick end. Because of this, the Tet Offensive became a very critical turning point in this war. It changed the
