fact that they both involve journeys of one kind or another, they are similar in the fact that the two men work with the supernatural beings and yet still retain
their own sense of free will to an extent. In the following paper we discuss the two men separately, examining their specific relationship with the supernatural, and then present a
comparison and contrast of the two mens relationships. Hamlet Hamlets interaction with the supernatural comes to the reader, and to Hamlet, in the form of his fathers ghost.
This ghost informs Hamlet that his new step-father is responsible for his murder. As a loyal son he is almost immediately determined that revenge be sought for the ghost has
no power to seek out such revenge. Hamlet, being a proper son of the time and living by his social and regal position as a Prince, understands that justice must
be done and he engages in serving the purposes of the ghost. Hamlet is driven by the supernatural being that is the ghost of his father. This is not
to say that the ghost makes him do anything, but that Hamlet feels far too obligated by the facts presented by the ghost and is driven to do justice. We
note his passion for such in the following lines when Hamlet responds to the facts presented by the ghost: "Haste me to knowt, that I, with wings as swift As
meditation or the thoughts of love, May sweep to my revenge" (I v) However, as the play progresses we begin to see Hamlet make decisions concerning his own free will,
a will that exists outside the realm of the ghost. We watch as Hamlet feigns madness so that he can better observe the truths and we watch as he information
