Indeed, the community policing concept is quite relevant today, and since Putnams "Bowling Alone" had been written, there is attention to eroding social capital and the importance of community life.
Similarly, minimalists and people who simply do not like to see "progress" at the cost of community life applaud such things. Mizrahis (2001) article comes at the right time and
provides inspiration for social workers who want to create change in society. First, a bit of history is relayed and Mizrahi (2001) talks about the political shift to the right
and how that affected social programs. She highlights the 1970s (Mizrahi, 2001). Indeed, by the time the 1970s rolled around and the Vietnam War ended, the Reagan years would see
enthusiasm for capitalism but scant attention to social programs. However, the author points to the fact that social programs are making their way back and social work practice had still
be proliferated, but mostly by special interest groups (Mizrahi, 2001). Wherever the funding comes, the need for social work is readily apparent, particularly in this age of many abuses. It
should be said that along with the history is a kind of denial where child and drug abuse were swept under the rug. Many things were ignored, but today, it
is a different kind of world and it is world that sees social workers in private practice as well as working in hospitals and clinics. Social workers are needed more
than ever. In many community hospitals and community organizations, social workers may mean the difference from an individual getting needed help or going it alone. Sometimes, their actions can make
