An 11 page discussion of the factors influencing the spread of Islam. While these factors can be attributed to specific events such as the independence of the Muslim states in the aftermath of World War II, the spread of Islam and the speed of that spread is really attributable to much more basic factors. These factors include societal need and receptivity, familiarity, the oral nature of the religion, the lack of need for formal structures, technology, and the high visibility of public figures who have converted to the religion. Notes that today Islam is represented by over one billion Muslims and comprises the majority in fifty nations. While some of this growth can be attributed to population growth in the predominantly Muslim countries conversion is a factor as well. Each of the above discussed factors has played a tremendous role in the conversion of many to Islam and in making Islam one of the most popular religions today. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
