College is a unique institution and is a rather small college that is geared to black women. Because of the population, and the nature of the surroundings, it makes for
a culturally relevant experience. How does Spelman create an environment conducive to knowledge? Seeking knowledge of course is a part of any academic career. If it were not, then
the institution is not doing its job, or perhaps a student is not ready for university life. Seeking knowledge in fact should be at the forefront of any academic experience.
Of course, sometimes, students simply sit in their seats and do the work, but do not care about what they are learning. Simply stated, there are students who go on
to higher education simply to obtain a degree. What they learn is quickly lost as their experience is simply one that is a means to an end. However, when a
student is thirsty for knowledge, the experience of seeking knowledge comes to the forefront. Spelman makes this part easy. In part, seeking knowledge may be aligned with motivation. Many schools
do not provide motivation to learn. That is, if professors are not very interesting, and the curriculum is bland, there will not be much interest sparked. Perhaps the primary reason
for this is the low student to teacher ratio as well as the caliber of the staff. Hiring instructors is the most important thing that an institution does as it
respects motivation and the desire to obtain knowledge. Good professors see the spark in each and every student and serve to foster a fire that will provide a long term
