the Spanish military revolted against the Second Republic (1931-39)" (Seidman, 1999; p. 821). On the one side of the battle there were the "insurgent officers, upper classes, most Catholics, and
the right, which included conservatives, monarchists, and fascists, who were known as the Falange" (Seidman, 1999; p. 821). On the other side, the rebelling forces contained "Communists, Socialists, trade unionists
of the UGT (Union General de Trabajadores), and anarcho-syndicalists of the CNT (Confederacion Nacional de Trabajo)" (Seidman, 1999; p. 821). Those who supported the right were known as Nationalists. They
were unified under the leadership of Generalismo Francisco Franco. "The left, whose major elements had already coalesced in 1935-36 to form an anti-fascist coalition called the Popular Front, became known
as Republicans" (Seidman, 1999; p. 821). In April of 1939 Francos forces, in combination with the power of the Nationalists, achieved victory and won the Spanish Civil War. Now,
there are many who would argue that it was the allies of the Nationalists who served to create the foundation for the victory. It is often contended that without these
foreign allies the Civil War would not have been won so quickly and it may not have been won by Francos side. In the following paper we examine this assumption,
providing historical information concerning the foreign allies, eventually arguing that such a statement is true. The Civil War was won by the Nationalists due to their foreign allies.
