story, but serving as the foundation for one form of character development or another as it relates to the primary characters. The following paper first examines the minor characters in
"The Sound and the Fury" and then discusses the minor characters in "The Professors House." The paper finishes with a summary or discussion of the importance of the minor characters
in both stories. The Sound and the Fury The Compsons and Miss Quentin are essentially the main characters in the story. There are four of the Compsons who
are the narrators of the story and each has their own specific section of the story. Around these Compsons and Miss Quentin the story revolves. One of the lesser
characters is Dilsey who is actually a person who is largely responsible for the raising of the Compson children. Dilsey is an African American and is a woman is incredibly
protective and pious. She "serves as a stabilizing force for the Compson family" and realistically seems to be the only character who is stable and reliable and intelligent in the
story (Sparknotes). Her husband is Roskus, a man who suffers greatly from rheumatism, a condition that will kill him. T.P. is Dilseys son and her integrity is
perhaps carried out even further in his character as he fights with Quentin at Caddys wedding. He is a simple character who perhaps serves to illustrate the tensions and confusions
