but through time, exploring had become the norm. In fact, the idea of the voyage emerged. The voyage would involved explorers who went from place to place in search of
new routes, new territory, and to trade. This was for the most part accomplished by ship. Sailing far away, when one is on a mission, may be thought of as
a voyage. The voyages began to increase over time as a human phenomenon. Many think of voyages starting with the time of Christopher Columbus because he is associate with the
New World, but voyages began long before he was born. In 1495 BC, almost three thousand years before Columbus would brave the seas, Hatsheput would discover what he called the
Punt, a place where modern day Somalia exists ("Timeline," 2006). The Phoenicians in fact were great ship builders (Goeldner & Ritchie, 2003). It was during approximately 800 BC that
they had already constructed trading posts near the Mediterranean (Goeldner & Ritchie, 2003). Cities would emerge in an area that is now known as Lebanon (Goeldner & Ritchie, 2003). Between
356 and 323 BC Alexander the Great had conquered India, parts of Africa, and Asia Minor ("Timeline," 2006). The Voyage had become a phenomenon in ancient times. The Greeks would
also emerge as a people that would begin to trade (Goeldner & Ritchie, 2003). One can start to see the reason for the voyages, which goes to trade. That is
obvious. What is not so obvious perhaps is that the voyages also linked people together, changing life forever. In modern times, one could look back and see the remnants of
