that existed many years ago. Yet, the significance of the find is not yet known because there is controversy in terms of how these remains should be classified. A student
asks: " Is it just a microcephalic or one of the most important discoveries ever made?" The answer to that is not clear cut and likely, a true, complete answer
cannot be gleaned for some time. As they say, hindsight is always 20/20. In the future it is likely that the significance of this find will be known, but it
does pay to examine the discovery and discuss it now based on what facts are known. The species in question has been nicknamed a Hobbit as it is smaller
than the Homo erectus (Deane-Drummond, 2006) . As an adult the Homo floresiensis is a meter tall and lived approximately seventy to eighty thousand years ago (Deane-Drummond, 2006, p.xvii). It
seems that this species, while similar but different from homo sapiens, lived at the same time as the homo sapiens (Deane-Drummond, 2006). There was overlap. The implication of this is

unlike homo sapiens, homo floresiensis did not last long (Jurmain Kilgore & Trevathan, 2006). They died off rather quickly. Shermer (2005) writes: " The chances of any living members
of this species still existing in the hinterlands of Flores are extremely remote, but some observers have noted that the indigenous peoples of Flores recount a myth of small hairy
