that existed many years ago. Yet, the significance of the find is not yet known because there is controversy in terms of how these remains should be classified. A student asks: " Is it just a microcephalic or one of the most important discoveries ever made?" The answer to that is not clear cut and likely, a true, complete answer cannot be gleaned for some time. As they say, hindsight is always 20/20. In the future it is likely that the significance of this find will be known, but it does pay to examine the discovery and discuss it now based on what facts are known. The species in question has been nicknamed a Hobbit as it is smaller than the Homo erectus (Deane-Drummond, 2006) . As an adult the Homo floresiensis is a meter tall and lived approximately seventy to eighty thousand years ago (Deane-Drummond, 2006, p.xvii). It seems that this species, while similar but different from homo sapiens, lived at the same time as the homo sapiens (Deane-Drummond, 2006). There was overlap. The implication of this is that the Homo floresiensis is not the missing link. It also suggests that stories equated with mythology may actually be true (Deane-Drummond, 2006). The author suggests that this might challenge the human beings thinking that they are the only types of humans around (Deane-Drummond, 2006). Indeed, the implications of this find are vast. An interesting point about it is that unlike homo sapiens, homo floresiensis did not last long (Jurmain Kilgore & Trevathan, 2006). They died off rather quickly.
