because of his notoriety and the fact that he has a unique fan base. Many might say the same about Michael Jackson. Actually, in the Jackson case, it seems that
one could make the opposite case. For Jackson and Stewart, it seems that the prosecution might have taken scant evidence and went ahead with their cases just to make a
point. Martha Stewart and Michael Jackson were the scapegoats. Similarly, in more serious cases, the 1950s held a great deal of attention for espionage. The Hiss and Rosenberg cases
are in fact legal matters that a student claims has more to do with politics than justice. Indeed, it is not hard to make this claim. In the case of
Joseph Hiss, the evidence is flimsy, and he spent years fighting the charges. In the case of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, many believe that they were victims of an overzealous
government. When discussing Hiss or the Rosenbergs, or other trials to come up during the cold war, there is something else to reflect upon. That is, at the time,
there was a significant fear of communism. Many can look back to the Second World War when Hitler destroyed millions of human beings. It has been since that time that
a fear has permeated the world. It is true that the forties ended with somewhat of an optimistic view, but once the fifties began, the bomb shelter was all the
