would also come about in terms of liberty and freedom and this saw revolutions. The American Revolution and French Revolution would come at the end of the eighteenth century, ushering
in a period where democracy would create a brave new world. France would endure a Napoleonic period where monarchy would be thrown out, albeit temporarily, but it did set the
stage for later governance. The Enlightenment period would create a sense that monarchy was old fashioned and political ideas would be aligned with the discipline of philosophy. These things occurred
throughout the world, including Latin America. In fact, in writing about the early 1800s in Latin America, Skidmore (2001) remarks: "...the dogma ...arrived in Latin America with Enlightenment philosophy and
the postindependence commitment to the principles of liberalism" (p.37). Of course, while the Enlightenment would spur changes in terms of governance, it would also be something that brought scientific
thought to the forefront. Here, religious ideas would be questioned and science would replace some beliefs without merit. Superstition would be questioned as well. The modern world would come about
and everything changed. The scientific finds would prompt the industrial revolution, causing a change in the way people lived. With mass production, the economy was altered. The rural landscape would
be replaced for city life, something quite different from what was known. All of these changes paved the way for postmodernity, where inventions and scientific inquiry is taken for granted,
but where philosophical and political theories are never discarded. Today, the world lives with a variety of philosophical ideas that will never fade. In understanding what occurred and why during
