significant changes, he was the first to document the problems which would ensue from the division of labor (Timmons & Hite, 2000). Some see The Division of Labor in
Society as something aligned with evolutionary theory. Indeed, people evolved to a point where they could create amazing things. Durkheim looks at a society in various ways and while he
lived during a time of modernity, or at least at the beginnings of it, he would see the industrial revolution as a catalyst for the changes he writes about. Interestingly,
the division of labor would be altered throughout history in different ways and for various reasons. Not only is the populous divided by ethnicity and race, but it is divided
by gender as well. Indeed, prior to women achieving the right to vote, they were viewed as second class citizens. In focusing on America as an example, it may be
said that women would not work as much as their male counterpart. It would not be until the 1960s that women would come into their own with a new wave
of feminism. That said, it should be noted that when World War II would begin, women would then begin a transition as well. Once the United States would become involved
in the war, women would go out to work to replace their husbands who were in Europe. While this was viewed as a temporary transition, it seems to have had
lasting results. Women were trained for new things. They would begin to develop careers and did not have to stay at home simply to raise children. Things would change for
