Americas history, a time when women were becoming more important. Prior to the 1929 crash things were fabulous, and along with the good times, as is so often the case,
came skimpier clothing. Of course, clothing was not nearly as revealing as it is today, but nevertheless, clothing seemed to be congruent with the days moods and mores. Perhaps nothing
makes quite as much of a statement as does a bathing suit, a garment made for the purpose of swimming but something that would become important to the lives of
many women. Bathing suits would not only dictate a womans place in society but some believe the amount of skin she reveals is equated with the power she commands. The
evolution of the bathing suit is closely tied with social mores, custom, religion and rebellion. How else could one explain what is not socially acceptable to walk down the street
is perfectly okay on the beach when one is closer to nature? Certainly, there is more going on than is apparent on the surface. The changing of the bathing suit
from 1920 through 2000 indicates theoretical concepts from the liberation of women to the sexual revolutions of various decades. The bathing suit, that small outfit people spend much of their
paychecks on in May, makes a statement, serves a purpose and also serves as evidence of a changing society. The 1920s was a time of change and the bathing suit
