the larger sense. The reason why is because strategy making and decision making are things that are done, or at least should be, within different environmental conditions. In other words,
there are a variety of corporate cultures and different outside environments, and in order to fully comprehend an organizations options, much needs to be known about that environment. Environments do
vary and they are changeable. Such is the way of the world. Nothing stays the same for long and in fact, Power of Now author Eckhart Tolle bases his entire
philosophy on the premise that nothing stays the same. Nowhere is this more true than in the business world. With corporations being mainstays one minute, and in bankruptcy the next,
internal and external environments are bound to be altered from time to time. Who would have predicted Martha Stewart would go to jail? Even more unlikely is the fact that
prison seems to have rendered her career even stronger. It is free publicity and few such instances fail at providing a positive future for individuals or corporations. Similarly, Enron employees
likely never dreamed that they would endure a world class scandal and lose all of their money. It seems that when it comes to businesses, and individuals who are
sometimes entities unto themselves, little is predictable. One bad piece of information can ruin a firm. Similarly, one spectacular piece of information can render a rally in the stock market.
