These are but a few of the marvels humans can experience within the course of a single lifetime due to the sense of sight. It is, without a doubt,
the most dominant of all senses for it shapes perceptions. The term insight refers to internal or psychological knowledge but makes it clear that much of what we know
is determined by what is seen. Seeing is believing; if something can be viewed with the naked eye, it therefore must exist. Eyesight is something upon which all
humans depend; it represents truth and offers security and truth. How many times have you heard someone say, "I see your point?" Sight dominates how we think, how
we feel, how we interpret the world around us. Interestingly, despite its massive significance, it is the sense of sight that is the last to develop within the fetus.
That is why premature babies are often visually impaired later in life. Although it was once believed that babies were color-blind and initially glimpsed life in black and white,
recent medical research has since determined otherwise. Because newborns are unable to speak, they are most reliant upon their senses of sight and sound during the first months of
life. It is sight that represents to them protection, for they become used to seeing the familiar (and reassuring) presence of their mothers, fathers, or any person with whom
they have daily contact. At night, when a baby awakens either hungry, sick or simply because of a nightmare, it is the sight of the caregiver that stills frightened
