"self," derives from memories of past experiences in the context of present relationships and situations. While the popular notion of "self" is to think of this concept as a unitary
entity, researchers disagree. The numerous studies that have been completed in recent decades by social scientists collectively convey the understanding that the "self," that is, how individuals conceptualize their identity,
derives from multiple aspects of their existence. This body of research shows the "self" and how this concept is understood within an individuals social world to be context-dependent. In
other words, a persons sense of self varies according to circumstances and the context provided by those circumstances and the web of relationships in which they occur. For example,
one aspect of my "self" is shown to my children as mother, while a totally different, but also overlapping, aspect of "self" takes the role of student. Over the
course of the past several decades, considerable research has been paid to aspects of "the self," as social scientists have investigated varied topics, ranging from self-concept and self-esteem to self-regulation
and self-schemas (McConnell, Shoda and Skulborstad, 2012). In analyzing the different characteristics of self that make up the various roles that define the "self." McConnell, Shoda and Skulborstad (2012) point
