Xiaoping understood that any other action would lead to collapse and so he stood firm in order to reverse Maos policies (41). Xiaoping had great faith in China. In 1992,
at Shenzhen, he announced that China would even do better than Singapore (41). Nearing close to two decades of his Open Door Policy, China had shown promise of becoming Asias
most dynamic economy (41). Some believe that if China avoids disorder and conflict it will become a giant economy within 30 years time (41). Their success should not be
viewed as a small feat. Other economies in the region have experienced serious problems. The Asian currency crisis has in fact had an impact in the area and around the
world. In fact, China and Taiwan are the only countries in the area that are not severely affected by the Asian crisis (Noor-Drugan 34). Chinas economic policy, and the reforms
made between 1980 and 1999, clearly affected its economy and made it the stable nation it is today.
China entered world markets through an open-door policy which affected trade and investment patterns in the Asian world (Park 51). The
successful entry of China into the global economy, coupled with the emergence of China as a major exporter of labor-intensive manufacturers, has helped to create a Pacific trade region,
