Seattle ("Seattle Monorail," 2012). The Center Monorail leaves every ten minutes between its two stations, which are Westlake Center Station, located at Pine Street and Fifth Avenue, and the Seattle
Center Station, located near the Space Needle ("Seattle Monorail," 2012). The monorail provides citizens and visitors with service from one point to another, allowing for a comfortable and enjoyable ride.
This part of Seattles transit system promotes a positive transportation experience. This is because the monorail allows people to see the city from
a height, something that is pleasurable in and of itself. The view is quite astounding. Also, most mass transportation in general is usually uncomfortable because it is found underground or
otherwise confined. This people transit system embraces a positive atmosphere in the way that it was built and maintained throughout the years.
In part, the attraction of the monorail is to provide an alterative to ground transportation. In fact, it was as early as 1910 that the monorail was proposed for the
purpose of reducing street traffic (OLeary, 2004). Interestingly, the proposal was made for practical reasons. Yet, this proposal did not come to fruition until as late as 1962 during the
Worlds Fair (OLeary, 2004). The monorail cost $3.5 million to construct (OLeary, 2004). It was, at least at the time, considered to be a space age gimmick (OLeary, 2004). Interestingly,
during 1962, the idea of outer space was all the rage. The society has come a long way since that time. The monorail actually had practical implications. It would take
people from the fairgrounds to the downtown area of Seattle and back (OLeary, 2004). Consistent with the theme of the fair, the shuttle created an ambiance that everyone could enjoy.
