says he wants to establish some science, or scientia as it was called, that is stable and likely to last. This makes sense and there is certainly a
connection between philosophy and science. After all, philosophy deals with existence and possibilities. While science is perhaps more concrete and provable, philosophy uses proofs as well to support all of
its claims. Descartes wrote in "Synopsis to the Meditations" that the purpose of the meditations is not to prove what they establish, but rather to show how the world of
physics could be mapped reliability and independent of the usually vague and misleading deliverance of sensory organs (Honderich 189). In other words, rather than begin in the philosophical realm, philosophy
proves what science cannot. It goes beyond science in a sense. Descartes searches for a way to classify things and express them and is not really looking for answers
related to existence or transcendence. It should also be noted that classification is used within science as well. Interestingly, many will read his arguments, which are admittedly logical, and wonder
whether or not they exist in the universe or whether their world is something that has been artificially created for them. The fundamental propositions of the science established in
the Meditations go to physics, but while Descartes did apply science, he was not really known for science specifically. Descartes was however a famous physicist and mathematician in addition
to being renown as a philosopher ("Modern" PG). Descartes physics however was superseded by Newton, so Descartes is not really remembered for science specifically (PG). That said, one sees remnants
of science in his philosophy. The fundamental propositions he called on has to do with existence and reality. Descartes, to believe that something exists, requires absolute certainty. Yet, it is
