was the residence of the architect, and is known as one of the most original architectural designs of the 20th century, and has been the subject of much controversy since
its inception (Smith, K., 2001). One of the features of the Schindler House that makes it so unique is that it was built to respond to the mild California
climate. The Schindler House was built in 1922, and therefore served as both residence and studio for Schindler up until the
time of his death. It was during these years that Schindler designed many residential and small commercial buildings that remain as monuments of the modern movement. Towards that
end, the Schindler House "demonstrates his exploration of the relationship of space, light, and form". "Space Architecture" is the phrase that Schindler coined to describe his architectural philosophy.
Schindler was born in Vienna, and got his start in architecture by working for Otto Wagner and Adolph Loos (Galinsky Studio, 1998).
It wasnt until 1914 that Schindler moved to Chicago in order to work for a commercial architecture business (Galinsky Studio, 1998). It was soon after that he became acquainted
with Frank Lloyd Wright and then went to work in his studio (Galinsky Studio, 1998). By 1920 Wright sent him to Los Angeles to supervise the Hollyhock House construction
