Use This Paper Properly, ABSTRACT This model paper is about the savings and loan industry collapse of the mid 1980s and the contributing factors of
the collapse. Because of the savings and loan debacle of the 1960s there were regulatory actions put into effect that would prevent such a happening again. What
these regulations served to do was to make it possible for future indiscretions to go virtually undetected which in turn allowed for the thrifts to get into worse financial trouble
before it was noticed. This served only in delaying the necessary action to rescue these troubled savings and loans. This is precisely what happened in the 1980s
when the savings and loan crisis forced a government bailout to the tune of over $183 million. Because these thrifts were investing heavily in very high-risk real estate markets
they were having problems getting themselves out of debt. The literature review includes five sources, beginning with an excellent look at the history of financial problems and their cause.
Determining whether history would repeat itself and could therefore be predicted was one of the hopes of some. However it was found that with each new fix came a
different set of problems. Indeed, the 1960s savings and loan collapse many would have felt would prevent the same mistakes from being made again. The fact is,
there were brand new mistakes being formulated and by the time another twenty years had gone by, the savings and loan industry had invented a whole new set of problems
