The details obtained by the hackers included information such as e-mail addresses, birth dates, as well as usernames for the Nokia Community Forum and other online applications such as Skype, ICQ, AIM, MSN and Yahoo! (Cluley, 2011). In commercial terms the breach was relatively limited, with information obtained by the hackers regarding the users being relatively limited, (Meyer, 2011). However, it maybe argued this was a breach that should never have occurred; it was not the result of a sophisticated attack which could not be avoided, the hackers utilized a well-known hacking technique in order to exploit vulnerabilities in the system which should not have been present. In order to examine this event, the way in which the breach itself occurred, the impact of the breach on individuals and the organization and the way in which the breach occurred can be examined. The hackers attacked the Nokia developer forum network, utilizing a relatively old technique called SQL injection. This approach, which will be explained more fully later, facilitated the hackers ability to gain a table with information regarding forum users, as well as make some changes to the forum which ensured that users would know that the network had been compromised by a hacker. The first indication that the system had been hacked was seen when users were diverted to a page which stated "it was owned by pr0tect0r AKA mrNRG" with a message that berated the lack of security practiced by Nokia (Cluley, 2011). The actual identity of this hacked has never been revealed, but it is believed that they originate fro India (Rashid, 2011).
